Mark Horne, Q.C.

Partner

Mark Horne Q.C. is a Victoria native who graduated from Oak Bay High School in 1965 and took his first degree in English (cum laude) at the University of Victoria in 1970. After receiving a diploma in Secondary Education in 1972 from UVIC, he taught for three years in the Sooke School District before entering UVIC Law School on a President's Scholarship in 1975.

John Coupar

Partner

Born and raised in Victoria, John graduated from the University of Victoria with degrees in Philosophy and Law. As a second generation lawyer, he considers Horne Coupar a family firm and has carried on the tradition since 1983.

Fiona Hunter

Partner

Fiona enjoys assisting clients in avoiding disputes in estates through careful planning. Where disputes become inevitable, Fiona helps clients reach resolutions through mediation and litigation. Fiona’s depth of knowledge comes from having practiced law since 1981 and from her passionate interest in the law generally.

Heather Fisher

Partner

Heather is from Saint John, New Brunswick, with an undergraduate degree in music from the University of Toronto and a master's degree in music from the University of British Columbia. She moved to Victoria in 1990 to join the Victoria Symphony as second bassoon.

Patrice Newman

Partner

Patrice practices exclusively in the area of civil litigation, practicing in BC for the past 10 years. She joined Horne Coupar in 2008, and became a partner in 2013.

Pat Johnson

Associate Counsel

Pat grew up in the Okanagan, on orchard land acquired by her grandfather in 1936 and still owned by the family. Pat obtained her B.A. in English literature and her LL.B. from the University of Victoria.  After graduating from U Vic, she attended UBC Vancouver, receiving her LL.M. in corporate and trust law.

Paula Bosenberg

Associate

Paula grew up in South Africa and received her LLB from the University of kwaZulu-Natal in 1998. Following the completion of her legal training, she moved to England, where she practised as a solicitor in London.

Dustin Marnell

Associate

Dustin was born in Victoria and has made the wise choice to settle here, after receiving his legal education at the University of Victoria. His preferred areas of practice are in the areas of estate planning and administration, incapacity planning, real estate, corporate-commercial, and trust matters.  

Suzanne Grant

Associate

Suzanne articled with Horne Coupar in 2012 and then joined the firm in early 2013, building her practice as a litigator. Her preferred areas of practice are wills and estates, adult guardianship, debtor-creditor, personal injury, and employment matters.  Suzanne has appeared in chambers and provincial court, and assisted partners at trials in the BC Supreme Court

Ross Steven Manson

Ross graduated with Honours from Simon Fraser University in 1970 and followed with a LLB from the University of British Columbia in 1974. Joining Horne Coupar in 1975, Ross provides the firm with specialized counsel in the areas of commercial lending, real estate transactions, business and corporate law.

Donovan Waters, Q.C., F.R.S.C.

Associate Counsel

Dr. Waters is a leading international expert in trust law and the author of several texts including Law of Trusts in Canada. He has had a distinguished academic career which has included positions at the Universities of Oxford, London, Chicago, Saskatchewan, Montreal and Victoria.

George Jones, Q.C.,

Associate Counsel

George Jones was born in Victoria, British Columbia. George was educated in Victoria, Halifax and Ottawa. George received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia in 1958. He articled with the firm of Russell & DuMoulin in Vancouver and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1959.

George Easdon

Mr. Easdon has been in general practice in Victoria for over 30 years combining general work as a solicitor and litigation in the Wills and Estates fields.
