Mark Horne, Q.C.


Mark Horne Q.C. is a Victoria native who graduated from Oak Bay High School in 1965 and took his first degree in English (cum laude) at the University of Victoria in 1970. After receiving a diploma in Secondary Education in 1972 from UVIC, he taught for three years in the Sooke School District before entering UVIC Law School on a President's Scholarship in 1975.

John Coupar


John is a member of our Inheritance and Incapacity Planning Group. His preferred areas of practice are wills, and estate planning, probate, and estate administration – areas in which he appears as a frequent guest lecturer. He also has a busy real estate practice.

Fiona Hunter


Fiona enjoys assisting clients in avoiding disputes in estates through careful planning with a particular emphasis on living trusts. Where disputes become inevitable, Fiona helps clients reach resolutions through mediation and if necessary, litigation. Her advice is informed by over 35 years of experience in the practice of law, her passionate interest in the law, and a liberal does of common sense. She has been qualified as an expert in the area of trust law by the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Heather Fisher


Heather is from Saint John, New Brunswick, with an undergraduate degree in music from the University of Toronto and a master's degree in music from the University of British Columbia. She moved to Victoria in 1990 to join the Victoria Symphony as second bassoon.

Patrice Newman


Patrice became a partner with Horne Coupar is 2013, and has a wide ranging litigation practice with emphasis in either challenging or defending estate disputes, including wills, disinheritances, or probate matters. She also deals with incapacity issues and adult guardianship. In addition, her litigation practice is rounded out with ICBC claims (including brain injury claims), employment matters, wrongful dismissal, construction, and contract disputes.

Pat’s preferred areas of practice are corporate law and family trusts.

Paula Bosenberg


Paula’s practice focuses on business and personal succession planning to ensure that assets are protected during a client’s lifetime and transferred to the next generation in a tax efficient, orderly manner.  Paula has particular experience in private and family owned businesses, as well as with professional corporations.

Dustin Marnell


Dustin's preferred areas of practice are in the areas of real estate, estate planning and administration  (wills, probate), incapacity planning (powers of attorney, representation agreements), and incorporations.

Suzanne Grant


Suzanne articled with Horne Coupar in 2012 and then joined the firm in early 2013, building her practice as a litigator. Her preferred areas of practice are wills and estates, adult guardianship, debtor-creditor, landlord-tenant, personal injury and employment matters. Suzanne has appeared in BC Supreme Court and Court of Appeal chambers, and provincial court.

Ross Steven Manson

Associate Counsel

Ross graduated with Honours from Simon Fraser University in 1970 and followed with a LLB from the University of British Columbia in 1974. Joining Horne Coupar in 1975, Ross provides the firm with specialized counsel in the areas of commercial lending, real estate transactions, business and corporate law.

Donovan Waters, Q.C., F.R.S.C.

Associate Counsel

Dr. Waters is a leading international expert in trust law and the author of several texts including Law of Trusts in Canada. He has had a distinguished academic career which has included positions at the Universities of Oxford, London, Chicago, Saskatchewan, Montreal and Victoria.
